Welcome to the very eighth Dispatches Weekly Digest.
Today’s Schedule of Events
A song picked at random from a guy popular among hipsters, from what I understand
TMI - A discussion of a book series I’m very (surprisingly) into right now
A recap of everything that got published on the Dispatches this week, including
Links to all the Nooners, in a row
Let’s get started!
The Song
I don’t have much to say about this one, other than that I like it. What’s really going on is that I’m trying to stop myself from posting new recommendations from the same like four or five artists. Josh Ritter’s catalogue, for instance, could supply this segment of the Digest for YEARS.
Anyway, here’s one that hits a lot of buttons for me — some creative backup vocals, a haunting chorus, and words that poetically suggest something dramatic is going on.
Enjoy.
I’m not someone who goes around talking about Rufus Wainwright, partly because I’m not familiar enough with his work, but more so because I get the impression that there are plenty of people out there talking about him a lot, and that I wouldn’t comfortably fit into that crowd.
But hey, a great song is a great song.
TMI
I gave this week’s guest exactly zero preparation, so he can be forgiven for unwittingly revisiting the topic of creative influences, which my brother-in-law did in the DWD #4. Anyway, it was a different person, so it was a different conversation — this time circling around why I’m currently so into the Locked Tomb series.
The Digest
As promised in Nooner #89, I’m pressing pause on the Nooners. When I made that decision, I didn’t realize how perfectly everything would line up. Nooner #100 dropped yesterday, which was not only the last post of the week, it was the last day of August.
This upcoming week (probably Tuesday), I’ll be publishing a long post about everything I learned doing the daily Nooner for three and a half months.
For now, though, here’s the last full set before the break:
#95 (August 26) - Regular versus radical acceptance
You can’t do the radical kind without faith#96 (August 27) - The universe is made of meaning
Another anti-materialism rant#97 (August 28) - Aliens wouldn't change anything
We'd still have bills to pay#98 (August 29) - Doing things is not stressful
It's the not doing them that's stressful#99 (August 30) - There are only two emotions
Can you guess what they are?
#100 (August 31) - Love is not a feeling
I don’t have to like you to love you
In Closing…
Two things, real quick.
If you want to help me out with the TMI segment, let me know and I’ll set it up.
If you’ve got ideas for other segments, also let me know!
See you next week.
