Welcome to the very sixth Dispatches Weekly Digest. The format might change, the content might change, but here’s one thing that won’t change:
This is only for my coolest friends.
Today’s Schedule of Events
A great song by an inconsistent artist
TMI - The guy who was the best man at my wedding asks me my opinions about how to draw the line between private and public life
A recap of everything that got published on the Dispatches this week, including
Links to all the Nooners, in a row
Let’s get started!
The Song
I don’t have much to say about this week’s recommendation. It’s by an artist I don’t listen to often, but this song grabbed me pretty hard recently. The lyrics and harmonies are haunting and beautiful.
What can I say, I just dig the vibe. Maybe you will, too.
In my experience, Lucius is not terribly consistent, but who cares. I’m not here to only celebrate songs by artists who never miss.
TMI
Austin Walters was one of my first guests back on the version of the Dispatches podcast that I abandoned after three episodes. It was only fair that I invite him back to this MUCH BETTER SHOW.
He and I dive deep, at speed!, into what makes something from private life okay to share publicly, especially in the context of lives defined, to one degree or another, by social media.
The Digest
This week, I totally spaced posting a By the Books post, but here are the six Nooners, all in a row:
#83 (August 12) - The TSA is a harbinger of doom
No, I'm not exaggerating#84 (August 13) - What's missing from your to-do list
Stuff you actually want to do#85 (August 14) - Nothing is precious
How to become invincible#86 (August 15) - I’m the most boring person I know
No one else even comes close#87 (August 16) - If we want new art...
We have to pay for it
#88 (August 17) - A name is just an address
Nothing more, nothing less
In Closing…
Two things, real quick.
If you want to help me out with the TMI segment, let me know and I’ll set it up.
If you’ve got ideas for other segments, also let me know! I want you to get your money’s worth.
Alright, that’s all. Thanks again, and don’t tell the others, but…
You’re my favorite.
