I believe "accepting the torture that comes with waiting, and enduring it with a stiff upper lip" is at least a close to accurate definition of tolerance and yes, it's quite different from patience. How many of us want to be "tolerated?" Even saying that leaves a chill. On the other hand, feeling patience toward a person or thing is an act of love, which you've just illustrated with words. Love this idea. Heard a quote from a therapy podcast this morning that this post reminds me of:
“You need another human being to hug you. You can’t hug yourself, it just doesn’t work”
