Funnily enough, hunting for dinner with a rusty machete has never been on my wish list.

I would definitely die in an apocalypse. I'm okay with that.

You raise a good point, though. Why the never ending popularity of end of world and zombie apocalypse stories, in which, typically, a handful of people are alive, and heroic. I assume the origins stem from the biblical Armageddon, in which only true believers survive. If Revelations didn't exist, would we still have come up with end of the world stories anyway? I think we would have.

This reminds me of when people romanticize societies of the past assuming they'd be a king or duke and not one of the vastly more numerous peasants.
