Interesting perspective. I do think some kids are naturally better at self play than others, just like all personality traits, it varies. Cultivating an ability to be bored is definitely an important skill though. And I did read that way back when he first posted it. I had mixed feelings. I own a couple of his books, I think he's a generally intelligent and insightful dude. But I also think he tends to take himself a bit too seriously. Sort of a Godin type. But that's fine! We need Godin types!
