You comment “ Because the person I spend all day long with isn’t the guy who looks back at me from the mirror. It’s the guy looking out at the world and everyone else.” is very powerful and So true. Did you like the book? Is it well written? Do you think “beautiful people” are more likely to be self-absorbed throughout their lives?
I think beauty really is a kind of wealth, and as we know, wealth is a double-edged sword. Tangible, physical bounty tends to obscure the need for psychological maturation and spiritual growth.
So, yes, I think beautiful people are more likely to be vain. Just as wealthy people are more likely to be prideful. We tend to glory in what we've been given.
“Tangible, physical bounty tends to obscure the need for psychological maturation and spiritual growth.” I feel like Olympia Dukakis is MoonStuck. yes! Thank for answering my question. I agree.
Believe it or not, my mom always gave me that advice too! I read this book in middle school and it’s still one of my favorite parables. Loved reading your thoughts!

I taught Dorian Gray this semester. Great book to come back to every few years, and not just because Oscar Wilde may be the best of us.
We're all gonna end up Dorian Gray. If we're lucky : )
