What I love most about this story is you stayed true. I wanted her to jump, for everything to work out, to be two people perfectly in love. Most of the time it's not that clear or perfect though and you let it conclude with the uncertainty teenagers in love feel. Excellent job to the both of you!

I so appreciate your appreciation. I don't like sad endings for sad endings' sake, but this felt right.

No but it’s SO GOOD!!! I love it! I always love your voice, and the fact that you did it with two authors. So great!

“Miss Lacey McThongpantsl” - hahaha. Love it. Also, how she dove in slow motion and it changed everything. Poor narrator. Ouch. I want to give her a big hug and then hold her tight as I jump off the edge

All I can say is: I felt that. Great story!!

Great piece of writing! It does what all great science fiction does - grounds you in the tangible textures of your lived experience and then pushes you out into other worlds. I've been on that rock, both literally and figuratively.

I agree with other’s sentiments that I’d love to learn more about your thoughts and Meg’s thoughts on this collaborative process!

Reminds me of a fun practice in the videogame community where people have a predetermined amount of time with code (1 hour - 1 day) then they hand it off with no notes or explanation to the next person, and that person builds upon it and the cycle repeats until the group of people runs out.

I know there are some key differences here but I really like seeing and hearing about these types of things

I think there's going to be a podcast episode at some point -- I'll let you know!

Holy crap!!! I read Meg’s first and knew they were “related,” but this feels totally different. It made me uncomfortable a little bit--this kind of emotionalism always does--but the storytelling is really good: very dense and in the moment. Really interesting. What do you do next with this little world you’ve created?

Thank you! Yeah, it's been really excited to see what kind of alchemy happens when our two writing styles collide.

As for what comes next in this world? Nothing! Probably. It didn't really occur to me until this morning that they could actually be set in the same world, sort of. It wouldn't take much to align them. But I like both of them as standalone vignettes.

As I’ve said separately to Meg, I think this his a really intriguing little experiment you guys have conducted and I suspect I’m not the only one who would like to learn more about it, to hear you guys reflect on what you were doing. Maybe someone interviews you for a podcast-style episode that airs somewhere ... ?

Keep me on the edge of when she was going to jump - then the end.

Sincerest apologies to you, my partner in literary crime, for the misspelling of your last name in today's cross-post. I'm usually SO CAREFUL. I blame the fact it wouldn't let me @mention you in the message. That feature needs an upgrade. We'll see it's done before Round 2. If you'll still have me after this terrible slight. 😕

No worries! I mean obviously there will be no forgiveness. But you're in good company -- I've disowned best friends, even family members, for making the same mistake. So don't sweat it.

See... it's this kind of /s stuff that had me worried we wouldn't get along. Glad I was wrong about that. 😊

Great writing. Love the flow and the voice.

Do we get to see the original at some point and how much it was tweaked? (Or have I missed that somewhere? New here...)

Thank you! I've been going back and forth about whether we should share the originals. I'm leaning toward no, because the final versions are better in both cases.

Totally understandable 👍
