What a beautiful recap of the "end" of a challenging creative project/relationship. Thanks for sharing ... congratulations on writing The End on such a massive project. While I can't be a reader, I wish you all the best.
If you are in need (like 10 people haven't already jumped at the chance to read your book) you know where to find me. But it will likely take me several moon cycles to finish reading, as I am just tiptoeing into the fray of a new novel project myself and well ... you know how it goes.
Right?!?! I get this super hard! Well, you’ve already had a taste for my feedback, so you already know what a pain in the butt I can be. 🤪 I can be either super anal retentive, or give broad sweep impressions if you still need readers. This is one I would totally do. Because I love this story! It’s also the one that made me realize, no matter if it’s a TV series or a serial novel, I’m a binger, not an episodic consumer. I tend to lie in wait, lurking in the bushes, until a series is done, then pounce it and lay it waste. So to have this one “done” all in one shot?? 🤩 ping me if you need.
Either way: woooooooo!!!!! 🥳 And my condolences. 😪 And wooooo!
Congratulations. So happy for you. I feel your pain on a small level, not as a writer, but as a reader. Whenever I finish a series, I always feel like I am losing a friend or friends.
If you haven't met you quota, I would love to read your book.
Congrats J.E! And I can so relate to the post-writing feeling. Honestly I feel a bit of that exhaustion and sadness every time I finish a creative project (including sending my newsletter).
Same thing happened to me. I recently finished a middle grade fantasy (going on Vella) and I felt lost. No initiative to write again, though I have half a dozen things I want to do. And, yes, I would love to read your book.
Thank you sharing this J.E. insightful reflection. I don't have desire to write a novel but reading this essay felt like I getting a glimpse inside the mind of another writer – which is always a blessing.
I love this poetic conclusion as well:
"Nothing ever stays the same. Especially not the best things.

I *heart* this so hard.

Still though... proud of you. 💜
Congrats on finishing-ish your novel!! Happy to read it for you if you’d like! That premise sounds super interesting!

My whole heart turned a little at the soil metaphor (simile?). Please can I be a test reader?

Post the first page. That's all a good reader needs. We'll let you know. BTW congrats.

I believe this is the substance of grief.
But then, isn’t the richest soil full of death?"
I can't promise to finish it, but the book sounds interesting, so I'd be willing to be a reader if the offer is still open.
