This is The Nooner, a short daily (Monday - Saturday) newsletter slash podcast that has its very own section within Dispatches from Inner Space.
Every Sunday, I publish the Dispatches Weekly Digest (DWD), which lets you binge all the Nooners from the previous week. It also includes a meaningful song recommendation, and a short segment I call TMI, where I go off script to bring you backstage, so to speak.
Two more things about the DWD:
It goes on on the main Dispatches channel, so if you’re looking to spare your inbox from the daily emails without missing out on anything, you can specifically unsubscribe from The Nooner section, and still get the Digest on Sunday.
It’s only available to paid subscribers.
The Dispatches Weekly Digest is a labor of love, and I’m really proud of it, and if you want to hear it, I want you to hear it. So, if you can afford it…
And if you can’t, but you still think of yourself as one of my true fans, let me know and we’ll work something out.
The least hard good habit
Yesterday, I talked about the virtuous cycle you can kickstart by exercising.
But I realize that for a lot of people (myself included), going from zero to regular exercise might seem too daunting. If you’re not the kind of person who goes to the gym several times a week, or something similar, chances are good you’ve tried and failed to become that kind of person. Probably more than once. Probably, if we’re being honest, a lot of times.
The truth is that good habits are hard. If they weren’t, everyone would do them and everyone would be a lot happier and saner and nicer.
Oh well.
But for most people, there is one habit that is the least hard, and will help carve out a path toward all the other good habits that are just too hard.
For me, and, I suspect, for most people (which is why I’m bringing it up), the first and most important and least hard good habit to start is to go to bed earlier.
Going to bed earlier will make it easier to get up earlier, which will make it easier to exercise, which will make it easier to eat better, which will help you have more energy, which will help you do more stuff throughout the day, which will help you feel tired earlier, which will help you go to bed earlier.
Virtuous cycle!
Exactly what time you go to bed is totally up to you. The important thing isn’t the schedule, the important thing is that you get enough sleep, and that your schedule makes it as easy as possible for you to start your day well.
Like any good habit, going to bed early enough is hard for almost everyone, especially at first. So don’t feel bad.
But if you want to make one change that will have the greatest positive impact on your life, this one’s hard to beat.
